i'm amazed at how jeopardy has managed to avoid changing its sponsorship tactics over the years. there is a massive amount of space available for sale but they still mention their sponsors in non-obtrusive text during the credits of the program. today i saw a sports center endorsement at the beginning of the program, i believe that they sponsored a category "sports stars." i was mildly offended until i realized that they still didn't allow the category to be entitled "sports center."

more importantly, the audience for jeopardy might be drastically offended if they sold out in that manner. i'm assuming that this audience slightly less tolerant to media corporate convergence and imbedded advertising. look at the uproar alex trebek's mustache received.

maybe i'm just rambling but i had to say something, especially when this brand free program leads into 'wheel of fortune' one of the most commercial programs on television...

I too am amazed that Jeopardy went for so long without being entirely overun by product placements. But I only noticed after they started, to my personal shock, amazment, and quiet outcry, include intrusive advertising.

I remember that Sport Center episode differently, the name of the category was Sports Center, and all the clues mentioned Sports Center. The day Ken Jennings ended his streak featured a category about Seinfeld with clues presented by the cast. Several episodes have had categories taken entirely from History Channel mini-series. I remember one category named after a sports almanac, with clues taken therefrom, and one with the Guiness Book of World Records getting the same treatment.

But maybe people like the synergy. Wheel of Fortune has had consistantly higher ratings for their whole 20 years together. The Price is Right has been on for 30 years.
